VZ Commodore - fixing a speaker

bodging a sketchy door speaker

October 29, 2026

Helloo again. Today we'll be fixing (bodging) a speaker. The issue here is that the speaker often plays music in a sort of a tinny fashion, the sort of noise akin to an old AM radio. Sooo, we're gonna take apart the door and see what's up.

This is gonna be a shit guide composed of whatever pictures i felt like taking. Consult the proper holden documentation for a proper one. Numero uno pry the red clip thing outward slightly and the whole assembly should slide right out.

Next, remove the screw in the door handle. It might have a cosmetic plastic cover. When you remove the door handle assembly, you'll see a screw behind that which you'll have to remove too.

Also remove all 6 screws around the perimeter of the door trim. Pulling outwards, it should come out.

Now carefully unplug the one wire heading to the window controls. You should be able to access the speaker easily now.

To take it out, simply undo the three inner screws.

Shazam you have one speaker + tweeter. I didn't do anything fancy to fix the speaker, I kinda just flexed it back and forth a couple times across the limits of its travel and that did the trick?

No more tinny noise wow.

Side note, you can also access fallen leaves by vaccumming the inner door cavity from the speaker outlet.
